The international retailer has opened its 60th store in Spain in the historical city of Lorca
Primark, the international fashion retailer, has opened its 60th store in Spain, located in the city of Lorca. This €6 million store is a significant milestone in the retailer’s ambitious expansion plans in Spain, where it opened its first store in 2006 in the Plenilunio Shopping Centre store in Madrid. Already the retailer has a presence in all Autonomous Communities and the Autonomous City of Melilla, over 10,000 employees across Spain and a regional office on Madrid’s Gran Via.
Last year Primark announced a capital investment of €100 million in its Spanish business, including €80 million in eight new stores and one store extension and a €20 million investment in store refurbishments. Lorca is the fourth of these new stores to open, following the opening of stores in Toledo Luz del Tajo in April, Open Mall Lanzarote in June and Melilla in September, as well as the recent Diagonal Mar store extension in October.
Next year Primark will open four more stores: one in Jaén Plaza, and a further three in the Comunidad of Madrid: La Vaguada, Alcalá Magna and Calle del Conde de Peñalver.
What makes Primark unique is its focus on creating fantastic stores that are designed to enhance the shopping experience for all Primark shoppers. Whether that is easily accessible store locations, locally inspired design, nail bars or frozen yogurt concessions, Primark’s in store experience has become a firm favourite with customers across Spain. The latest addition to this offering is Primark’s new self-service checkouts, which customers will find in the new Lorca store., meaning they can enjoy additional speed and convenience during their store visits.
Primark has been working to become a more sustainable business for over a decade and in 2021 launched the Primark Cares strategy which sets out its ambitious commitments to make to make more sustainable products that everyone can afford. Already, 50% of Primark’s clothes are made using recycled or more sustainably sourced materials, and the retailer has committed to doubling this figure by 2030.
Carlos Inacio, General Director of Primark in Spain, said: “I am so proud to open our 60th store in Spain today. This very exciting milestone reflects Primark’s dedication to growth in the Spanish market, increasing our number of stores, reaching more customers throughout the country and creating job opportunities. I want to thank all our colleagues throughout Spain, whose work and dedication has shaped Primark and I would like to thank our customers who have supported us over the years.”
