Primark, the international fashion retailer, today opened its new Primark Donostia store in San Sebastián located at the Garbera Shopping Centre, following an €8.5 million investment by the retailer. Continuing its ambitious expansion in the country, this opening represents Primark’s first store in the Guipúzcoa province and 56th store in Spain, creating more than 110 new jobs.

Spanning 4,000 sq metres of shopping space across two floors, Primark Donostia offers the in-store experience that Primark is known and loved for. Primark Donostia customers can now finally shop for the latest trends and everyday essentials across menswear, womenswear, kidswear, beauty, lifestyle and homeware – including Primark’s ever-growing Primark Cares label, all part of its commitment to make more sustainable fashion affordable for everyone. 39% of Primark’s clothing is already made from recycled or more sustainably sourced materials, and the fashion retailer has committed to make that 100% of its clothing by 2030. In addition, the new San Sebastián store features free Wi-Fi access, 27 fitting rooms and 21 cash desks.

First store in Guipúzcoa and fourth in the Basque Country

Primark Donostia will be the fashion retailer’s first store in San Sebastián. In April 2008 the retailer opened a store at the Ballonti Shopping Centre in Portugalete; in November 2012 it opened in Vitoria at the El Boulevard Shopping Centre and in 2021 Primark opened a high-street store in Bilbao city centre located at the Torre Bizkaia on Gran Vía.

The new store will be the fourth in the Basque Country and has created more than 110 new jobs for the city, providing a great boost to the local economy. This brings the number of people employed by Primark throughout the Basque Country to over 400.

International expansion – 3 stores opened in 3 days

This is a significant week for the Irish retailer as it continues its international expansion; on Wednesday, Primark opened its second store in the Czech Republic in the city of Brno, and yesterday it opened its 37th store in Ireland, in Tallaght, Dublin. This brings the total number of Primark stores to 408 globally.

Carlos Inacio, general director of Primark in Spain and Portugal said: “We are so excited to finally open our new San Sebastián store. We have a loyal fan base in the Basque Country who shop with us at our stores in Álava and Vizcaya, and we are delighted to bring this new store to Guipúzcoa and be closer to our customers in San Sebastián. Our unique formula of the latest fashion trends, in addition to our great value everyday essentials, has hit the right note with Spanish shoppers since we opened our first store in Madrid in 2006. We have stayed true to our mission of offering something for everyone at prices which are as affordable to as many as possible, and we know that this matters to our customers now more than ever. We look forward to welcoming our new customers into this fantastic store.”

Primark also recently announced a commitment to protect prices on more than 1,000 of its essential children's products as it seeks to help family finances go further amid the rising cost of living. Shoppers at the new San Sebastian store can be confident that this autumn, prices will be held across many of its most popular kids’ lines, from underwear to t-shirts, to dresses and jeans.
