Engaging and partnering with relevant stakeholders helps us to increase our leverage and build further understanding of the risks in our business and supply chain, in addition to how to address them. This includes engaging with policymakers, worker rights organisations and civil society groups. We also actively participate in multi-stakeholder and industry initiatives at both a national and international level. As part of this we respond to requests from NGOs and other stakeholders to demonstrate how we are meeting our commitments and addressing specific issues.

Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI)
We have been members of Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) since 2006, and we have committed to upholding their Principles of Implementation. These principles set out how member companies should approach ethical trade. The Principles include: demonstrating a clear commitment to ethical trade; integrating ethical trade into core business practices; driving year-on-year improvements to working conditions; and supporting suppliers to improve working conditions.
Annually, we submit a report to the ETI outlining the steps we are taking to implement their Principles across our supply chain. We also provide a Strategic Plan that outlines the objectives of our ethical trade work over the next 3-5 years. The ETI assesses these submissions, identifies areas of progress, and provides guidance on where further action is needed. We have been recognized as a leader by the ETI since 2011 due to our commitment, implementation, and ongoing progress, and we remain dedicated to working with the ETI to drive continuous improvements.
The German Partnerships for Sustainable Textiles

Members pool their expertise and make a commitment to achieve social, ecological and economical improvements in the textile supply chain.

Sudokkho – Factory works insights, 60 Decibels
Sudokkho programme helps factories create effective technical training for sewing operators, most of whom are women. Given our commitment and investment to the Sudokkho programme we wanted to better understand its impact, enabling us to learn and drive continuous improvement. We partnered with 60 Decibels to carry out an impact assessment of our Sudokkho programme in 2023. 60 Decibels surveyed over 600 workers involved in the programme to understand how the training had impacted their careers and lives. Exploring Male Management Attitudes toward Gender Equity in Garment Factories - ICRW for Primark
To support our commitment to promote equal opportunities for women in our supply chain we continuously deepen and evolve our understanding of challenges women face in terms of progression and promotion in the workplace. To support this learning, we partnered with the International Center for Research on Women (ICRW) to document attitudes held by male factory management towards gender equity in four factories in India. The research explored workplace norms, such as gender segregation of roles within the factory and limited women in supervisory and managerial positions, alongside views of women in the wider societal context. Social norms are pervasive, pass through generations and set expectations on different genders. The findings from this research have been developed into a research report and a supporting Conversation Guide to support future engagement and capacity building of male management, across any sector, on gender equity themes.
We welcome ICRW’s research to help build our internal knowledge and inform our approach towards addressing these pervasive negative attitudes. By engaging with management on these issues more effectively, we aim to increase the ownership and participation in our gender focused programming across the supply chain.

Ten years of the Primark Cotton Project
In 2023, we celebrated a decade of supporting farmers in our cotton supply chains across India, Bangladesh and Pakistan through the Primark Cotton Project (formerly the Primark Sustainable Cotton Programme). We wanted to understand the impact on farmers who have been engaged with the Primark Cotton Project since the beginning and learn what difference the programme has made to their lives a decade on. In 2023, Primark engaged an independent social impact and evaluation organisation, Enabling Outcomes, to carry out an assessment of participants from the original batch of 1,251 smallholder women farmers who were the first trained under the pilot in the western state of Gujarat in India.
