Our world is beautiful and we want to keep it that way. That’s why we are working hard to reduce our impact on the planet. Discover what we’re doing to lower our carbon footprint and help look after nature.
We all have a responsibility to do what we can to protect the world we live in. At Primark, we’re committed to changing the way we do business to reduce our impact on the planet and cut waste. We are constantly looking for new and more environmentally friendly ways of working – whether that’s with the farmers who grow the cotton that goes into Primark products, the factories that make products for sale, the trucks that bring them to our stores, or how we run our stores themselves. Since 2019 for example, we estimate to have removed and/or avoided over 1 billion units of single use plastic from our business.
Right now, 46% of the cotton in our clothes is recycled, organic or from our Primark Cotton Project (formerly the Primark Sustainable Cotton Programme). We have now trained 299,388* farmers in more sustainable farming practices under this programme, surpassing our target of 275,000 farmers by end of 2023, cementing this programme as the biggest of its kind of any single fashion retailer.
We’ll be one of the first international fashion retailers to adopt more regenerative practices at scale in cotton farming by 2030. We’ll do this to try encourage and improve biodiversity, reduce the impact of climate change and secure more sustainable livelihoods for farmers.
We’re committed to reducing fashion waste across all areas of our business. From the raw materials we source, to the cardboard boxes we transport our goods in and the unsold clothes in our stores, we’re stepping up and doing more to manage our waste and working to recycle as much as possible.
