Primark's Manchester Market Street store undergoes makeover this summer

Primark is giving its Manchester Market Street store a fresh new look this summer, with the full transformation expected to be completed by September.

The store is one of the retailer’s biggest flagships on the UK high street, spanning over 150,000 sq. ft. It is set to benefit from a new modernised layout, with the introduction of more self-service checkouts and enhanced fixtures and fittings. This includes its windows, which will be updated to create a brighter, lighter shopping experience. Shoppers will also notice updated walkways and signage, and LED lighting throughout the store.

As part of the renovation plans, the retailer will add a brand-new performance wear area that will feature enhanced displays, as well as a refresh to its RAWR beauty studio. Other changes customers can expect is the departure of WornWell’s vintage clothing concession as the store makes space for Primark's own pre-loved offer, to be unveiled in July. This is a pilot for the business but the first of its kind for any Primark store.

Primark’s Market Street store first opened its doors in 2001 and became the retailer’s 71st store on the UK high street. Today the store employs over 500 retail colleagues, the majority of whom live locally in the Greater Manchester area.

Rich Davis, General Manager at Primark Manchester Market Street store, said: “We’re excited for these changes to take place in our Market Street store, particularly as we’ve been here in the heart of Manchester for the past 25 years. We’re doing our best to minimise disruption for our customer in the meantime, but we want to thank everyone in advance for their understanding and patience throughout this period. We’ll be open as usual throughout the summer and the team can’t wait to unveil our fully revamped store when the time comes.”

Meanwhile, the retailer is expanding its footprint in the Greater Manchester area with the launch of a new standalone Primark Home store at Trafford Palazzo this summer. Spanning two floors and almost 12,000 sq ft, the store will offer an extended range of homeware, furniture, soft furnishings, and more – including a dedicated Travel Shop and the retailer’s premium The Home Edit line.

Primark continues to invest in its stores across the UK as it looks at new ways to give shoppers greater convenience and choice. The retailer currently operates 197 stores across the UK and employs over 30,000 colleagues nationwide.
