Primark Unveils New and Improved Liverpool Store

The investment comes as part of Primark’s £140m investment in the UK high street unveiled in November last year.

  • An extended Primark Liverpool opened its doors at 9am today, Friday 23 June.

  • The store will offer more product choice and variety, two brand new in-store experiences and a day of repair classes on 11 July.

Primark is reaffirming its long-term commitment to the city of Liverpool through a multimillion-pound investment in its local store. This includes a significant extension, a reinvigorated layout which will enable the store to offer customers more choice and variety of product, and two brand new customer experiences.

The £3m extension, which opens to the public today brings the store size to over 94,000 sq ft across five floors in the heart of Liverpool’s city centre as Primark formally takes over the adjacent unit. It will see Primark’s Home department – one of the store’s most popular – move from a small section on the top floor to its own dedicated space in prime ground floor territory, enabling Primark to offer a much greater range of its home and lifestyle collection.

The extension will also make more space for two of its other bestselling departments, Kids and Women’s, enabling it to offer more product choice and variety, while also giving customers an improved, more spacious experience.

In addition to the extension, the store is also welcoming two of Primark’s newest customer experiences – a Tasty by Greggs café (found on the second floor) and a WornWell by the Vintage Company shop-in-shop (found on the lower ground floor).

The café, which is the fifth of its kind following the successful launch of the first ever Tasty by Greggs in Primark Birmingham last year, will enable customers to put their feet up and enjoy some tasty treats after working up an appetite bargain-hunting on the shop floor. Featuring the same vibrant interiors customers have come to expect elsewhere, the ‘most Instagrammable Greggs in the world’ will play host to Greggs’ famous sausage-roll swing.

The new look store will also feature a WornWell concession, Primark’s seventh in its exclusive partnership with the Vintage Wholesale Company. The concession has been popular with customers in other locations including London, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff and Bristol, establishing it as a go-to destination for vintage clothes and allowing customers to create unique looks by mixing old with new fashion. The shop-in-shop offers customers a selection of vintage pieces from one-of-a-kind reworked sweaters and pre-loved dresses to branded coats and jackets at competitive price points.

The revamped store will also host upcoming free clothing repair workshops on Tuesday 11 July. Hosted by fashion designer Lorraine Mitchell, more than 100 classes have been run across Europe to date and focus on basic repair techniques including sewing hacks to empower people to repair and re-wear their clothes. With no experience needed, attendees will also be given a reusable tote bag and a sewing kit to use at home. Places are limited so those interested are encouraged to register.

Primark Liverpool store manager Chris Cassidy said: “Since opening our doors in 2007, Primark Liverpool quickly became one of our most popular stores in the country. Now, with the extension, it becomes our sixth biggest in terms of space too. We’ve seen that our local customers love our Home range, so I’m thrilled that we’ve been able to expand the store to give them more of what they love. The additional space will give customers an overall improved shopping experience, whilst the arrival of Greggs and WornWell – two of our most popular partnerships – means they’re in for a treat when they next visit. We can’t wait to see what they think!”

Since opening in September 2007, Primark Liverpool has quickly become one of the retailer’s most popular stores and now employs close to 700 colleagues. It was one of the first stores to take part in Primark’s Click + Collect trial, giving Liverpool shoppers access to an extended range of kidswear products. All customers can browse online and check availability of their favourite styles before heading into store.

The store’s makeover comes as part of the £140m investment in UK retail unveiled last November, as Primark looks to invest in its stores to give customers even more reasons to visit their local shopping areas.
