Primark Launches New Sustainable Women’s Leisurewear Collection With Recycled Cotton Innovator Recover™

The collection is certified by circular fashion company Recover™, whose goal is to close the loop on fashion: its innovative and unique recycling process cuts and shreds what was once considered waste into new, high quality fibers. The eight-piece collection is available in stores from May 24th at Primark’s everyday great prices.

What might have previously been left on the cutting room floor has made its way into a new capsule leisurewear collection from Primark. Under its Primark Cares label, the innovative new collection is partially made from recycled cotton sourced from unused fabric waste and recycled clothes.

Each item in the eight-piece collection of classic and trending leisurewear is made using 15-25% recycled cotton. The remainder is made up of a mix of materials, including sustainable cotton from Primark’s Sustainable Cotton Program, organic cotton, and polyester.

At Primark's' affordable prices, the new collection includes hoodies, joggers, sweats, tees and leggings in navy, white, black and gray, with hero basics like a V neck T-shirt bodysuit and a matching hoodie and jogger set.

Primark’s Director of Primark Cares, Lynne Walker, said, “At Primark we believe that fashion should be more sustainable—but that this shouldn’t come at a higher price. We're working with innovative partners like Recover™, who have been a leader in closed-loop recycling for over 70 years, as part of our Primark Cares initiative to help make sustainable fashion affordable for everyone. At our usual great prices, this collection can help make that possible so everyone can afford to make more sustainable on-trend choices.”

Recover™ Chief Sustainability Officer Helene Smits said, “Recover™ is helping close the loop on fashion by recycling textile waste into fibers which are spun into yarn and then knitted or woven into new textiles. This creates low impact, long lasting and high quality products that can be worn and loved into the future. We're thrilled to be working with Primark on this new collection, made with our recycled cotton.”

About Recover™ Spanish material sciences company Recover™ has over 70 years of recycling experience and has been certified by multiple organizations. According to the Higg MSI, Recover™ recycled cotton fiber generously outperforms equivalent virgin fibers, conventional cotton and organic cotton, in all 5 impact categories: Global warming potential, eutrophication, water scarcity, fossil fuel depletion and chemistry.

Recover™ uses post-industrial and post-consumer textile waste as a source of raw material, cutting the large pieces of textile waste into smaller ones that are suitable for subsequent cleaning and shredding processes. Recover™ removes all non-textile materials from clothing through an efficient automated extraction process. The textile pieces are recycled into new fiber, ensuring the best quality and the maximum fiber length. The cotton fiber is then integrated into the supply chains of Recover™ closed-loop partners.
