One year on: Primark shares progress on its journey to make more sustainable fashion affordable for all
In the face of rising cost-of-living pressures, Primark remains intent on delivering its vision of making more sustainable fashion affordable for all. One year on since the launch of its Primark Cares sustainability strategy, 45% of all clothes Primark sold came under its Primark Cares label denoting clothes that contain either recycled or more sustainable materials*. Primark has committed to transition 100% of its clothes to its Primark Cares label by 2030, while keeping its same Primark great value pricing.
Squeezed young shoppers worry they can’t afford to dress more sustainably anymore
New research commissioned by Penneys shows that Irish consumers are facing a crisis of conscience, with close to one third (30%) saying they are worried the cost-of-living crisis will prevent them from shopping more sustainably. This rises to 39% amongst Gen Z shoppers (18-24 year olds), with 29% of this age group also saying they don’t know where to find more sustainable clothing.
Primark expands partnership with Recover™ and becomes first retailer to introduce RColorBlend on a global scale
Primark is expanding its partnership with recycled cotton producer Recover™ and will become the first high-street retailer to use Recover’s unique RColorBlend fibre on a global scale with the launch of a new leisurewear range. The partnership supports Primark’s commitment, through its Primark Cares strategy, to increase the amount of clothing containing recycled materials and builds on its ambition to make more sustainable fashion affordable for all.
Primark launches global partnership with Fairtrade
Primark has today announced a global partnership with Fairtrade with the launch of a new beauty collection across all 14 markets. Part of Primark’s Wellness collection, the new range features body butter, bath oil, face cream, balm to oil cleanser, multibalm and hand cream, which are all made using Fairtrade certified shea butter and olive oil. The products will be available in a select number of stores across Europe and the U.S.

New research from Penneys reveals the changing attitude in Ireland towards caring for clothes and their life span: Over three quarters of Ireland’s Gen Z’ers are repairing clothes: 77% of 18-24 year olds said they have repaired clothes in the last 18 months. This compares to just over a third (36%) of 25-34 year olds and 45% of 35-44 year olds.
Primark announces major expansion of its Sustainable Cotton Programme, intending to train 275,000 cotton farmers in more sustainable farming by 2023
Primark has today announced a major expansion of its Sustainable Cotton Programme – it has committed to train an additional 125,000 smallholder cotton farmers in more sustainable farming methods in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh by the end of 2023, increasing the expected availability of sustainable cotton for its products by 60%. This will bring the total number of farmers in the PSCP to over 275,000, an expansion of over 80%, cementing its position as the largest of its kind of any single fashion retailer.
