Penneys has seen a sharp rise in demand for summer fashion and holiday essentials across its 38 stores this week as Ireland’s ongoing warm weather drives shoppers towards seasonal staples across stores nationwide.

While the sunny spell initially saw many people swapping the shops for beaches, parks and outdoor gatherings, Penneys has experienced a major spike in summer shopping from Monday 25th May onwards this week, with demand surging across warm-weather fashion and holiday essentials as the hot spell continues across the country.

Irish shoppers have been embracing summer dressing in a big way this week, with Penneys seeing strong demand across everything from sandals and swimwear to hats, shorts and casual basics as people bask in the sunshine enjoying beach days, family BBQs and sunny trips outdoors, while also getting ready for holiday season. Men in Ireland are getting their legs out as shorts are up 100% versus last year, ladies’ hats have increased by 86%, ladies’ sandals by 68%, and ladies’ sunglasses a whopping 111%. Swimwear has also seen a boost with men’s swimwear up 71% and ladies swimwear up 25%.

The retailer has also seen strong demand across beach accessories, while men’s casual summer dressing including T-shirts, shorts, and short-sleeve shirts continues to perform strongly as shoppers lean into the heatwave wardrobe.

Fintan Costello, Head of Penneys for Ireland and Northern Ireland said; “The current heatwave has definitely sparked a shift in shopping habits this week, with customers flocking to our stores to grab some summer fashion and essentials. We’ve seen really strong demand across everything from sandals and swimwear to shorts, hats and casual summer basics as people enjoy family gatherings, beach days, and making the most of the warm weather at home. At a time when people are still very conscious of what they’re spending, customers continue to look for great value without compromising on style or quality, and that’s exactly what they’re finding in our summer ranges in our stores.”
