Primark increases pay for all retail colleagues across Great Britain

Primark has announced it will increase the hourly pay of its retail colleagues in Great Britain, benefitting over 27,000 workers.

From April 1, the retailer will increase its average rates of hourly pay for all retail assistants across England, Scotland and Wales to a minimum of £13.00 or £13.71 per hour in London. It means that over the last three years, on average, a colleague will have seen their hourly rate increase by over 15%.

Kari Rodgers, UK Retail Director at Primark, said: “As retail becomes a more demanding environment, our colleagues play an increasingly important role to support our customers and the local communities we’re part of up and down the country. By investing in increasing colleague pay, we hope this goes some way towards recognising their hard work, commitment and the value they bring every day.”

In addition to the new changes to hourly rates, colleagues will also continue to benefit from a 15 per cent year-round discount alongside a range of other benefits. These include Primark’s family benefits for all Retail and Depot colleagues, including improved maternity, paternity, adoption, and surrogacy payments.

Primark employs over 30,000 people in the UK across retail and head office. Its increase in colleague pay is just one part of its continued investment in the UK as it continues to invest in opening new stores and refreshing and updating existing ones to give customers more reasons to visit their local high street.
